Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe Capital is building the financial infrastructure that powers fast, flexible financing for businesses. We serve two distinct audiences: businesses directly using Stripe who need capital to grow, and Connect platforms that want to offer financing to their own users through "Capital for Platforms."

Our Engineering team builds the entire ecosystem that makes this possible. From automated underwriting models, the application and servicing experiences, to the repayment flows that automatically withhold funds from sales. We operate at the intersection of complex financial constraints, technical scale, and a user-centric product.

What you’ll do

We are seeking an experienced technical leader to define and drive the evolution of Stripe Capital’s technical and product vision. You will operate at the intersection of engineering, product, and strategy, helping the organization navigate the technical trade-offs inherent in building a global lending business. Whether you are leading the technical expansion into new geographies or building abstractions to enable entirely new products and operating models, your decisions will shape the future of Capital. Winning in this space requires solving uniquely challenging technical problems; balancing growth and resiliency with long-term requirements of a global financial product.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Technical Strategy: Define the long-term architectural vision for Capital’s systems, ensuring our technical roadmap aligns with ambitious business goals while maintaining system health and agility.
  • Architect for Scale: Design the abstractions and systems required to scale Capital across countries, partners, and entirely new product shapes.
  • Ensure System Reliability: Lead initiatives to improve the durability, auditability, and correctness of our financial systems, ensuring they remain performant and resilient in the face of very rapid growth.
  • Force-multiply the organization: Mentor senior engineers, foster a culture of technical rigor, and collaborate across functions like Product, Legal, and Partnerships to navigate the trade-offs inherent in a high-growth financial business.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner closely with Product, Legal, Treasury, and external financial partners to translate ambiguous business requirements into clear, scalable engineering roadmaps.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on backend experience building large-scale, distributed systems
  • Proven track record of building large scale, complex distributed systems; identifying shortcomings and optimization opportunities; and making data driven cost performance tradeoffs to influence design decisions
  • Excellent technical communication skills; you can articulate complex architectural trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders (including external partners).
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively directly with partners and across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Past experience mentoring and investing in the development of engineers.
  • A user-first mindset; you care deeply about the product experience and the users who rely on the systems you build.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in Fintech, Lending, or complex Financial Systems. Specific experience with money movement architecture (ledgers, reconciliation, funds flow) an additional plus.
  • A history of building or managing complex partner integrations (APIs, data exchange standards).
  • Experience navigating the trade-offs between speed of delivery and long-term architectural purity in a high-growth environment.
Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in our Bucharest, Romania site have an 80% in-office expectation, and those in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengaluru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.

The annual US base salary range for this role is $242,700 - $364,000. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
