About The Team/role

About the job:

As the Head of Communications for 99, you will lead a wonderful team of communications experts focused on telling 99's unique story to the millions of partners and people who count on our services across Brazil. You will define and lead communications strategy across our growing mobility and payments product and services portfolio in Brazil. You will also serve as a lead spokesperson for 99 in Brazil, manage our significant agency relationships, and drive innovation in our approach to digital communications. And you will lead efforts to prevent and manage crises -- you will help to build and defend our reputation by maintaining a best in class crisis response team and process. Your most important role will be leading and building our robust comms team in Brazil, helping them to develop in their careers while delivering real results that can help us continue to grow and manage our reputation through increasingly complex and challenging times.

Though you will lead communications for 99 and Brazil, you will also be a key part of the international DiDi communications team which spans 15+ markets around the world. You will report directly to the Head of International External Affairs.

99/DiDi’s International Communications Team is responsible for telling 99/DiDi’s unique story to people and partners around the world, in a fast growing number of countries across an equally fast growing suite of products and services. As the world’s leading mobility and convenience platform, with upwards of 50 million trips and deliveries happening on our platform every day, DiDi helps more than 550 million people around the world get where they’re going, and the things that they need. It is our team's job to tell this story, to bring the infinitely complex nature of our business and our technology to life. We work across traditional and digital media, across the hyperlocal and the global, and we are constantly working to match our innovation in approach to that of our fast growing company.

In this role, you'll be...

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of 10+ communications experts, defining and executing strong communications plans for our mobility, food and payments businesses
  • Serve as a key member of the 99 leadership team in Brazil, serving as a key advisor to local and global leadership, and helping to guide the direction of the company, including our product and business strategy
  • Manage our robust agency relationships and budgets across Brazil, ensuring we get the most out of our resources spent
  • Serve as a key on-camera spokesperson for 99 with local, regional and digital media, building strong relationships with reporters and influencers, always ready to stand up to represent the company in times of opportunity and crisis
  • Manage crises, big and small, that can affect 99 on a near daily basis due to the hyperlocal nature of our business
  • Constantly push for new ideas and approaches in our communications work across Brazil, never settle for what's been done before...take risks, sometimes fail, but always get up and try again

Preferred qualifications:

  • 15+ years of external communications experience, ideally with a mix of corporate, agency and perhaps work in the public sector or with a leading NGO
  • Experience working with a global organization is ideal - a background working for U.S. or Chinese tech companies a big plus
  • Native (or near native) Brazilian Portuguese language skills, as well as excellent written and spoken English
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Finally, passion for helping people get where they are going, and get the things they need, will help you fit right in :)
