We are responsible for underwriting all of our customers, while simultaneously managing Brex’s risk exposures. We work cross-functionally with Compliance, Data, Product, and Engineering to allow Brex to scale efficiently, keeping quality top of mind.

What you’ll do

The Enterprise Risk Analytics team is an analytics team embedded within the Operations organization responsible for creating and maintaining the First Line of Defense risk (credit, fraud, AML) controls that protect Brex and our customers. As a general analyst, you'll delve deep into urgent fraud and credit cases to protect our customers and our company's assets. By staying at the forefront of emerging fraud schemes and credit risks, you'll craft rules and interventions to proactively identify and counteract high-risk activities. Your knowledge in both domains will be instrumental in expanding the team’s impact on fraud and credit risk reduction while optimizing for the customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement dynamic fraud detection rules based on ongoing analysis of fraud patterns and trends.
  • Build out a credit risk rule foundation and mature it into a well-maintained control suite.
  • Regularly review and fine-tune existing rules to ensure maximum efficiency while minimizing false positives.
  • Work closely with Operations, Product, Engineering, and Data Science teams to develop and enhance fraud and credit risk detection tools and systems.
  • Create comprehensive reports detailing cases, findings, and rule performance for internal stakeholders.
  • Write and present proposals for new credit and fraud tools, systems, or partnerships to enhance our capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Finance, Economics, Data Science, or Statistics.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar analytical role, preferably in financial services industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into understandable insights and reports.
  • Proficient in SQL and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proactive attitude and the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing requirements.

Bonus points

  • Experience with machine learning, especially as applied to fraud detection and credit risk.
  • Experience with international fraud patterns and prevention strategies.
  • Experience working with credit risk across various portfolios.
