The Engineering team includes Data, IT, Security, and Software, and is responsible for building innovative products and infrastructure for Brex and our customers. We believe that engineers should accelerate the business through technology, and collaborate across multiple teams to accomplish that. What you’ll do

As the engineering manager of Product Data Platform, you will lead a full stack team of engineers that supports a large amount of Brex’s client facing product and internal systems.The team's goal is to make Brex customizable, scalable, and effortless for finance teams to manage. To achieve this we are looking for a highly technical leader, with a deep understanding of how to speak with internal and external clients, and drive changes to the Brex product as a whole. You will be part of the larger Product Platform organization, and play a key role in shaping Brex’s engineering future as we strive for a high quality, high performance experience.

Where you’ll work

This role will be based in our Vancouver office. You must be willing to work in the office at least 2 days per week on Wednesday and Thursday. Employees will be able to work remotely for up to 4 weeks per year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a strong full stack engineering team, developing core platforms supporting Brex products
  • Work with individuals and teams across Brex to organize a platform roadmap of key investments
  • Drive platform adoption through strong evangelism and empathy, supporting implementation of product use cases, and building a reputation of support
  • Grow and further foster a positive engineering culture that empowers individuals to develop their skills and careers
  • Own and be accountable for impact and communicating it to leadership and more broadly
  • Participate in the broader direction and roadmap of the Product Platform group including platforms supporting internal data movement, workflows, frontend, and more

Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering experience with backend system architecture, infrastructure, or third party API platforms
  • 1+ years of experience in an engineering leadership role strategically managing individual teams with cross functional leadership and talent development
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills by effectively managing multiple requests and workloads, utilizing time management techniques and task prioritization to meet deadlines
  • Experience with driving platform development and adoption through pragmatic approaches, supporting product development
  • Strong and effective communication ability to convey complex ideas in a simple manner, apply active listening when working with others, and drive teams to resolutions during discussions.
  • A proven track record of building cultures that encourage ambition and foster empathy. You will create and contribute to a healthy and collaborative culture that showcases Brex’s values.
  • An innate desire to lead by example and fill gaps in the teams development and execution

Bonus points

  • Experience building and maintaining search indices or platforms at scale
  • Experience maintaining and developing public facing APIs and managing the requirements of their consumers
  • Experience optimizing database usage and application performance
  • Experience having led, managed and developed a high-performing Platform Engineering team.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $240,000 CAD - $300,000 CAD. However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
