Job Description

A bit more about this role

Devoted Medical – the multi-disciplinary virtual care affiliate of Devoted Health – is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and mission-driven Physician Leader to serve as the Associate Medical Director of Preventive Care. This is a highly impactful position: you will serve as the clinical leader of the largest clinical care delivery program in our organization.

In close partnership with the Director of Operations for the program, you will be responsible for driving performance on the program’s KPIs, including clinical quality (Stars and HEDIS), patient experience, risk adjustment, operational efficiency, and preventive care outcomes. Although this role will spend ~10% - 20% of your time in direct clinical practice, approximately 80% - 90% of your time will be focused on program leadership: strategy, metrics, operations, people leadership (including a team of nearly 200 nurse practitioners via their managers), and cross-functional alignment.

If you are passionate about value-based care and preventive primary care, and want to lead a bold program at scale, this is a rare opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the Director of Operations to deliver on all program KPIs (clinical quality, patient experience, risk adjustment, operational efficiency) and ensure clinical workflows support program goals.

  • Serve as the senior clinical leader for the program’s front-line clinical workforce (~200 NPs through their managers and senior managers): recruit top talent, mentor and develop NP leaders, establish and maintain clinical standards through ongoing clinical education and monitoring initiatives, oversee the program’s Clinical Grand Rounds, and foster a high-performing, mission-aligned culture.

  • Drive improvement on clinical quality measures including Stars and HEDIS: identify gaps, develop and implement initiatives, monitor results, and continuously refine interventions.

  • Ensure accurate and comprehensive clinical evaluation, documentation, treatment, and coding in collaboration with Population Health, the Clinical Documentation Improvement team, data analytics and care teams

  • Maintain some direct clinical practice (~10%) to stay grounded in frontline care, model excellent clinical behavior, and remain connected to patient-facing work and NP teams.

  • Collaborate across functional teams (analytics, care coordination, member experience, product/technology, operations) to ensure the program is data-driven, integrated, and aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Advocate for a member-centric, preventive care model: champion relationship-based care, early intervention, chronic disease prevention, and exceptional member experience.

Attributes to success

  • Inspiring and credible clinical leader: earns respect from front-line clinicians, and can lead at scale while maintaining authenticity and clinical grounding.

  • Passionate clinical educator: energizes and inspires clinicians through teaching and mentorship; leads Clinical Grand Rounds and skill-building programs that foster continuous professional growth and ensure the NP team delivers the highest standard of preventive care

  • Collaborative partner and influencer: effective working across functions (operations, analytics, care teams, product), aligning diverse stakeholders around shared goals.

  • Execution-oriented and results-driven: moves from insight to action, holds teams accountable, and drives measurable improvement.

  • Adaptable and innovative: thrives in a fast-moving organization, embraces change, and contributes to evolving care models in preventive primary care.

  • Mission-focused and member-first: believes in treating members like family, and motivated to improve outcomes for Medicare populations.

  • Strategic and analytical thinker: able to interpret complex quality, risk, and operational metrics, and translates them into actionable program design and improvement efforts.

Required skills and experience

  • MD or DO with board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or a closely related primary-care specialty

  • Active and unrestricted US medical license, and willingness to acquire additional state licenses to support a national virtual practice

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice in primary care or preventive care, with at least 2 years of people management experience (e.g., leading or managing teams of clinicians)

  • Experience leading a care-delivery program of significant scale, particularly NP-led or hybrid physician/NP-led models

  • Experience working within Medicare Advantage or other value-based care or population-health models, with working knowledge of Stars, HEDIS, and risk-adjustment frameworks

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills: comfortable working with quality and risk metrics, interpreting data, and leading data-driven interventions.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to engage clinicians, operations, analytics, and senior leadership.

Desired skills and experience

  • A track record of innovation or change management in care delivery programs—ideally building or scaling care models in a rapidly evolving environment.

  • Prior exposure to telehealth or virtual care delivery models and care-technology integration.
