About the Role
As a Payroll Support Specialist, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting our customers using our payroll platform and overseeing the successful processes and procedures related to it. In this role, you’ll act as a key partner to both clients and internal teams — becoming an expert on our platform, answering payroll-related inquiries, resolving issues in collaboration with our payroll processor, and maintaining clear, up-to-date documentation. Your work will directly impact our payroll customers' satisfaction and operational efficiency as we scale our payroll offering.
You’ll be a key player in ensuring accuracy and peace of mind for our customers, helping them navigate one of the most complex and sensitive parts of their business and our product. You’ll work cross-functionally with our product and success teams to make sure every customer interaction is handled with care, precision, and empathy.
What You’ll Do
- Own Payroll: Act as our company's expert on payroll operations, supporting both our customers and our team.
- Own Partnership: Collaborate with our payroll partner to resolve issues.
- Own Relationships: Build genuine and strong relationships with our customers, from multi-unit high-growth shops to third-wave single-units all across the United States.
- Support Excellence: Respond to customer inquiries via phone, text, and email with a problem-solving mindset.
- Product Expertise: Become an expert in all aspects of our product and build product knowledge resources.
- Product Feedback Loop: Collaborate with team to relay product feedback directly from customers.
- Process Iteration: Take part in weekly inter-team retrospectives to reflect, share feedback, and improve how we work and serve.
- Cross-Team Communication: Act as a conduit between customer insights and internal teams to influence product direction.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience with payroll platforms, HRIS tools, or small business accounting
- Passion for customer experience and a genuine desire to help businesses succeed
- Comfort working with numbers, taxes, compliance topics, and documentation
- Strong communication skills — especially in explaining complex topics simply
- High attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple deadlines
- A steady presence in stressful or high-priority situations
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Bonus: familiarity with tools like Gusto, ADP, or QuickBooks

Work Environment
This is a fully in-person role at our Manhattan office. We believe in the power of close-knit spontaneous collaboration, which is why our team is together five days a week!
