About the Role:

The Global Supply Chain & Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring Motive's international supply chain and hardware logistics operations comply with global trade laws, environmental standards, and ethical sourcing expectations. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, ESG, this role blends hands-on regulatory analysis, documentation management, supplier engagement, and sustainability/ESG initiatives. The position supports both risk mitigation and operational excellence through practical collaboration across Product, Engineering, Legal, Supply Chain, and business teams.

What You'll Do:

Trade Compliance & Customs

  • Support the team on import/export regulations, customs laws, sanctions, and tariff developments across priority markets (US, Mexico, UK, EU).
  • Guide product classification (HTS codes), ECCN, and country-of-origin determinations for customs, ensuring compliant filings and duty optimization under manager guidance.
  • Collaborate with brokers, freight forwarders, and legal counsel to facilitate accurate declarations, clearance, escalating complex trade issues when needed.
  • Work cross-functionally with the supply-chain and engineering teams to ensure compliance with trade and customs matters.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and advise the team on changes affecting the business as directed.

Supply Chain Operations & Sustainability

  • Help coordinate documentation required for end-to-end movement of hardware and components, (shipping, warehousing, and distribution).
  • Assist in supplier assessments with a focus on environmental practices, responsible sourcing, and reduction of carbon footprint, waste, and packaging.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to advance ESG commitments—GHG reduction, sustainability reporting, and responsible sourcing initiatives.

Documentation, Systems & Support

  • Prepare, review, maintain, and audit trade and sustainability documents (e.g., commercial invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin, supplier ESG certifications) under manager oversight.
  • Own accurate management of compliance and sustainability data in ERP/legal systems (NetSuite, Coupa), flag discrepancies, and coordinate fixes with the team.
  • Respond to internal requests for information related to compliance or sustainability documentation, escalating matters that require complex problem-solving or risk assessment.
  • Act as a liaison between Legal, Engineering, Logistics, and ESG stakeholders, driving updates for supply chain compliance and product launches.

Process Improvement & Training

  • Suggest improvements to standard operating procedures around sourcing, vendor management, compliance testing, and documentation.
  • Assist in preparing materials for training and best practices to internal and external partners related to trade regulations, sustainability, and responsible supply chain operations.

What We're Looking For:

  • 3-5 years’ relevant experience in trade compliance, customs, logistics, or supply chain management; expertise in hardware, regulatory environments, or sustainability/ESG programs preferred.
  • Understanding of global trade regulations (customs, Incoterms, sanctions), and familiarity with international sustainability standards (ISO 14001, GHG Protocol, social responsibility assessments).
  • Hands-on experience with compliance documentation, ERP systems (NetSuite/Coupa), and driving process improvements.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills; ability to balance commercial, regulatory, and sustainability objectives in a dynamic, matrixed business.
  • Knowledge of supply chain sustainability trends (Scope 3 emissions, product lifecycle, eco-friendly logistics) and demonstrated track record of launching or improving responsible supply chain practices is highly desirable.
