Software Engineer, Developer Infrastructure
Stripe
Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
The Developer Productivity group is responsible for making Stripe’s developers happy and productive. We work on tools, processes, and code refactoring to accelerate Stripe engineering as Stripe scales.
The ideal applicant will have familiarity with managing large-scale distributed compute infrastructure, tools such as Docker, ECR, Bazel and Firecracker, and a pragmatic approach to iterative problem-solving. Above all, they should be driven by a desire to continuously improve the development process for their fellow engineers.
You’ll collaborate closely with partner teams in Europe, such as CI Infra and CI Services, Test Environments and Frameworks, as well as partner teams based in the US who provide language specific tooling for Engineers who develop in any of Stripe’s supported languages (Ruby, Java, golang, python and more).
What you’ll do
We have a ton of important work to do, which is why we’re hiring! Our active projects change all the time, but here are a few examples of recent projects so you can get an idea of the types of work we do:
- Improve the reliability, performance and efficiency of Stripe’s multi-region CI platform. If you like thinking about distributed systems, identifying and addressing scaling issues and failure modes, you might find a good home on this team!
- If you love helping developers be more effective at their jobs, we have a ton of interesting projects around improving build reproducibility and performance using Bazel and related tools, both in a CI context and also in the inner development loop as engineers iterate on bug fixes or new capabilities.
- Enhance the reliability, speed and efficiency of our largest builds. One of the key ways to execute builds efficiently is to bake incrementality into every aspect of the build process. We have accomplished a significant amount in this area, but have a long way to go!
- Enhance the ability for Engineers to test new workflows on their local machines, and in CI.
Responsibilities
- Build large scale distributed systems, tools and libraries that serve as the interface to data infrastructure for all of Stripe’s engineering teams
- Maintaining and evolving existing distributed, and local, services.
- Collaborating with engineers on the team, as well as cross-functional stakeholders, to develop prototype solutions for domains which are underserved by existing tooling.
- Design, build, and maintain distributed cloud infrastructure services
- Participate in roadmap planning and prioritization. Stripe is an Engineer driven organization, and leans heavily on the expertise of each engineer team to build the roadmap for the future.

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.
The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €81,600 - €156,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
Specific benefits and details about what compensation is included in the salary range listed above will vary depending on the applicant’s location and can be discussed in more detail during the interview process. Benefits/additional compensation for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; retirement plans; health benefits; and wellness stipends.
