Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Collaboration team helps Stripe employees work smarter, find information, share knowledge, get to know each other, and request and receive help from one another. Many of our solutions are integrated into Stripe Home, our custom-built intranet (read more about it here: (https://stripe.com/blog/stripe-home).

The team is very nimble and works across a wide stack: on any given day, we discuss user interface design, data models, API design, infrastructure maintenance, search relevance/GenAI, or all of the above. We're excited to innovate in a space not traditionally thought of as being at the forefront of innovation.

As a team that builds critical, company-wide tools, we prioritize projects with the highest leverage. This involves extensive cross-functional collaboration, partnering with groups ranging from engineering to HR to top management. One of the greatest rewards is seeing the direct impact our work has on our users: our fellow Stripe employees.

What you’ll do

As an engineering manager on Stripe’s Collaboration team, you will be a key member of a team that acts as a force multiplier on the internal tools that Stripe uses. You will focus on building innovative GenAI-powered experiences that help Stripe employees be more productive across various tasks and activities. You will build these experiences by collaborating with multiple teams across Stripe and experimenting with different ideas and the newest technologies.

This is a new team being staffed out of Dublin, and aligned with an existing peer US team. Over time, it will own tools, products, and services end-to-end, as well as platform pieces that the broader Collaboration team builds and maintains.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit top engineering talent in partnership with Stripe’s recruiting team to build a diverse and high-performing team
  • Scale the team up from zero, and work with US-based teams to align charter and ownership, and take over more domains as the team scales
  • Build full-stack solutions across variety of Stripe's internal tools, including delightful web applications, Chrome extensions, GenAI-powered features, and integrations with other internal tools and platforms
  • Engage directly with users to understand their business needs and translate requirements into concrete solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver these solutions
  • Push our vision for the internal tools space to be the best-in-the-industry powered by the latest technologies and convert it to real productivity gains for Stripe employees
  • Lead engineering and design processes, and coaching, mentoring, and supporting your team as they build innovative, user-facing solutions

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • You love to build delightful user experiences
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience, directly managing and growing teams of 5+ engineers focused on building and shipping products at scale
  • 10+ years of full time software development experience, with a strong background in full-stack development
  • Experience hiring and building new teams from zero
  • Experience leading teams that have shipped and maintained critical user-facing products
  • Strong technical proficiency to engage thoughtfully with engineers about architecture and product design, with a particular focus on modern web technologies, performance, and user experience
  • Experience building extensible, leveraged software solutions that scale to different kinds of user needs, with the ability to empathize with users and advocate for exceptional user experiences

Preferred qualifications

  • You have a passion for enabling people to do their best work
  • You have experience working across geographies and with North America-based teams
  • You have industry experience working with Ruby, TypeScript, and React
  • You have a healthy respect for corporate software, understanding where it shines and where it could be improved
  • You enjoy working together with your team toward common goals, but are able to drive your work forward autonomously
  • You work very well cross-functionally, and are able to think rigorously and make hard decisions and tradeoffs
Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in our Bucharest, Romania site have an 80% in-office expectation, and those in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengaluru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €136,000 - €204,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Specific benefits and details about what compensation is included in the salary range listed above will vary depending on the applicant’s location and can be discussed in more detail during the interview process. Benefits/additional compensation for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; retirement plans; health benefits; and wellness stipends.
