Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Payments is Stripe’s flagship product. Our payments platform processes trillions of dollars annually. This team has the opportunity to expand the reach of Stripe’s global payments network, design and implement novel payment capabilities, and deliver best-in-class reliability and performance.

The team is looking for an engineering leader that is able to be both technically involved as well as engaged in developing the strategy for the organization and the people.

What you’ll do

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a new APAC-focused payments team in Singapore. In this role, you'll build and mentor a high-performing engineering team, define technical strategy, and partner with Product Management to ship features that unlock growth across APAC and China.

Your team will play a critical role in serving strategic regional users - identifying emerging trends in APAC markets and translating those insights into global product capabilities. By collaborating cross-functionally across Stripe, you'll deliver scalable, reliable solutions that not only power payments in some of the world's fastest-growing markets but also strengthen Stripe's product worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Be actively involved in strategic direction and product decisions, partnering closely with Product Management to shape the roadmap for APAC and China markets.
  • Collaborate with regional market-facing teams to deeply understand user needs and translate those insights into product and engineering priorities.
  • Support a team of senior engineers and help develop their careers with stretch responsibilities and excellent feedback.
  • Set and execute a vision for how to rapidly scale Stripe's revenue product offerings and features to support top use cases across the region.
  • Work with engineering leaders in your org and across Stripe to build extensible, automated systems and make the right foundational investments.
  • Engage directly with strategic users to understand their pain points and ensure the team is delivering solutions that drive real impact.
  • Empower your engineering team to deliver a high level of technical quality and impact.
  • Recruit a diverse team of engineers that are amongst the best in the industry, from outreach to closing.
  • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe's engineering management team.

Who you are

You're an engineering leader who is energized by solving real problems for real users. You use the word “users” or “customers” a million times a day. You thrive at the intersection of technology and business - equally comfortable diving deep into technical architecture and sitting with customers to understand their challenges. You like to work in the trenches with engineers, and you like to lead from the front. You're passionate about building elegant, scalable solutions and mentoring engineers to reach their full potential.

You believe great products are built by teams that deeply understand their users, and you're excited to work closely with regional teams, product partners, and strategic customers.

Minimum requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering management role.
  • 8+ years of full-time software development experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully hiring, developing, and mentoring engineers.
  • Ability to lead by example in fast-paced, high-impact, and ambiguous environments.
  • Commitment to high operational rigor when working with production systems.
  • Experience building extensible software solutions that scale with business growth.
  • Adept at thriving in a collaborative, cross-functional, and cross-timezone environment, while fostering a positive team culture.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience building products for enterprise users or direct consumers.
  • Experience with building out new teams.
  • Experience developing product platforms to serve other product teams.
  • Familiarity with the payment processing industry.
  • Proven track record collaborating with partners across multiple regions and time zones.
  • Experience and comfort with being in a user facing role.
