About Handshake AI
Handshake AI partners with leading AI labs to build high-quality datasets that improve how AI models are trained and evaluated. Our work is rooted in domain expertise: we collaborate with researchers and academics in fields such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biophysics to create and review research-level problems that challenge today’s most advanced AI systems.

About the Role
We are seeking senior academics to join our expert network as Senior Academic Reviewers (Auditors). In this role, you will serve as the final line of defense for quality—auditing problems and answers written by domain experts and reviewed by peers, and ensuring that the data meets the rigorous standards expected by top AI research organizations.

You will bring your subject-matter expertise, sharp critical thinking, and ability to communicate clearly to help us refine both the content and the processes we use. This is a senior-level, part-time, project-based role designed for established faculty members who want to contribute their expertise to the advancement of AI research.

What You’ll Do

  • Audit reviewed research-level problems and answers in your field (math, physics, chemistry, biophysics, or related)

  • Critically evaluate whether each prompt meets the expectations of high-end AI research labs

  • Identify and suggest improvements to strengthen clarity, rigor, and quality

  • Provide input on principles and processes to continuously improve dataset creation

  • Collaborate asynchronously with other experts, Fellows, and Reviewers in the Handshake AI network

Who You Are

  • Current or recent faculty member (Assistant/Associate Professor or equivalent) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics

  • Strong academic credentials, with publications, teaching, or research leadership in your domain

  • Experienced in reviewing or evaluating the work of others for accuracy and quality

  • Exceptional critical thinker with the ability to spot flaws, redirect approaches, and strengthen rigor

  • Clear communicator who can explain reasoning as well as identify errors.

  • Curious and motivated to contribute to projects at the intersection of research and AI

Nice to Have

  • Tenure-track or established academic position at a leading university

  • Active participation in research groups, conferences, or labs

  • Prior experience advising, peer-reviewing, or serving on academic committees

Details

  • Engagement: Part-time, project-based. Workload is flexible and variable

  • Location: Remote, global

  • Compensation: $100/hr+ (flexible for highly qualified candidates)

  • Commitment: Flexible; ideally 5–10 hours per week, but we also welcome highly qualified candidates with less availability

Why Join Us

  • Play a direct role in shaping how leading AI systems are trained and evaluated

  • Contribute your expertise beyond academia in a way that advances science and technology

  • Collaborate with a network of Fellows, Reviewers, and senior experts across multiple domains

  • Flexible, remote work with competitive compensation
