Your career is an investment that grows over time!
Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money. Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing, opaque and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone. We’re the largest fintech company in Canada, with over 3+ million users who trust us with more than $100 billion in assets.
Our teams ship often and make an impact with groundbreaking ideas. We're looking for talented people who keep it simple and value collaboration and humility as we continue to create inclusive and high-performing teams where people can be inspired to do their best work.
As Senior Manager, Brokerage Finance you will be a strategic, cross-functional translator who will serve as the critical link between product innovation and our core financial and regulatory obligations. You will be a key partner to our engineering, operations, and finance teams, translating complex regulatory requirements into actionable system and process designs to enable efficient and compliant product launches. This role will embed regulatory discipline and financial integrity directly into our engineering and operational DNA, ensuring that our books and records systems are robust, compliant, and meet the needs of many.

In this role you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Guide Brokerage Financial Systems: Collaborate with our engineering team to define and articulate the financial requirements for Wealthsimple's brokerage books and records system. This includes guiding the design and implementation of accounting processes capable of handling the complexities of modern fintech products and ensuring the system adheres to specific recordkeeping rules.
  • Enable New Product Launches: Act as the key financial and regulatory liaison during the product development lifecycle. You will work closely with operations and our brokerage CFO to ensure that new features and products are built on a foundation of a compliant and accurate underlying ledger, accounting for all financial and regulatory requirements from the initial "ideation" phase.
  • Own Regulatory Reporting: Serve as the subject matter expert and primary owner of all regulatory reporting, with a specific focus on preparing, reviewing, and submitting all required reports to the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) and provincial securities commissions. You will ensure strict compliance with specific accounting treatments prescribed by the regulation.
  • Support Month End Reporting: Step in when needed to help complete month end processes including supporting manager group in month end reviews and approvals.

What you'll bring:

  • A passion for Wealthsimple, fintechs, technology, and AI
  • An ability to thrive in fast-paced and highly ambiguous settings, building products and processes from the group up with limited guidance
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in the brokerage industry
  • CPA designation
  • Experience working with brokerage accounting systems such as Broadridge, ISM, or Dataphile
  • A deep and nuanced understanding of Canadian financial regulations, particularly the rules set forth by CIRO.
  • An understanding of a variety of financial products and instruments.
  • The ability to converse fluently with numerous stakeholders, showing an ability to translate requirements into actionable steps.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional projects and fostering collaborative partnerships among diverse teams.
  • A highly detail-oriented and analytical mindset, coupled with strong communication and strategic thinking abilities.
  • CFO qualifying examination would be an asset
  • Canadian Securities Course would be an asset
